21 October 2010 – the angry customer line

It is frosty here this morning and very cold. Gloves and scarf were essential for this morning’s walk to work. Work wise I’ve had a bad couple of days. It feels like I’ve been on the angry customer line again. Consequently I have felt really tired. We all get them but when you get a succession of angry people who think if they shout loud enough you will cancel their bill it is very wearing.

Tonight I came home worn out and too tired for evening exercise. Still I had an early night which I needed.

There was some good news. Mini Commando has finally got a job. It’s only part time and only until after Christmas to start with but it’s at the bear factory which he will love because he’s great with children. Hopefully he will be kept on after the Christmas rush has finished. Fingers crossed.

Friday 22 October

For the first time I really wasn’t looking forward to the Riverside walk today, especially not getting up early on my day off. Even so I dragged myself out of bed when the alarm went off and was out of the house just after 8, wrapped up warmly with a hat, scarf, gloves, my parka and of course the rucksack. I was glad I was because it was very cold down by the river.

There were lots of swans by the big bridge today but only one cygnet which was odd as there were quite a few last week. When I got to Woodmill, where the little family of five cygnets and their parents are usually swimming I was looking forward to seeing how many white feathers they had this week. Last week the grey was beginning to be speckled with white. This week there was no sign of the cygnets at all, just the parents. I wonder where they have all gone?

When I got to the little bridge I was very tempted to turn back but I pressed on. I made it to the airport and turned back at exactly three and a half miles. This part of the walk is not as pleasant as walking along the river, especially past the Ford factory, but there isn’t much in the way of traffic most of the time. By the time I got back to the little bridge my shoulders were aching from the rucksack and, oddly, I felt really hungry, even though I had museli before I went out. It was tempting to stop and sit by the river for a while. I didn’t though.

I planned to walk eight miles because I had some parcels to pick up from the parcel office and figured that would add another mile onto my journey. Again I was tempted to forget the parcels and drive over to get them later but I talked myself into carrying on.

The two parcels I had to collect turned out to be seven for some reason (perhaps my postman can’t count) so I ended up with two carrier bags to add to the weight of the rucksack for the last half mile. My shoulders were really hurting by this point and I wonder if I will have to reconsider the rucksack if I’m doing really long walks in future or perhaps take some of the weight out.

When I got in and checked the Garmin it turns out I underestimated the trip to the parcel office and actually walked just under eight and a half miles. I stopped for a snack and a drink then cleaned the bathroom before Commando and I walked up the big hill to the solicitors where we had an appointment to make new wills. After that there was a quick trip round the shops to pick up some provisions then home for a nice lazy afternoon.

Saturday October 23

Once I’d finished my low fat croissant weekend treat I sat in my new snuggly size 12 La Senza PJ’s for a while feeling smug about fitting into them. They were one of the items I picked up from the parcel office yesterday, another of my eBay bargains.

We went to the football this afternoon. Usually this is an emotional rollercoaster when you’re a Saints supporter. It’s a thirty minute walk there and of course I took the rucksack. They look in your bag before they let you in and Commando always worries that they’ll question me about the packs of sand. Well today for the first time it happened. Luckily it was a female steward and she understood completely. In fact was asking me how I had managed to lose the weight.

Anyway the match was a bit up and down as Oldham scored first. Luckily we got one back just before half time and another in the second half. Two chances to jump up and down and burn some more calories. After a good match, for once, we walked home burning a few more calories.

Then Commando said he wanted a Chinese. Yikes.

I did have quite a few calories left but hate to eat all my exercise calories so I suggested I walk up the big hill to the takeaway shop. Commando skippered that though because he had some bits and pieces he wanted to pick up in Sainsburys, so that was out of the window.

While he was gone I did thirty minutes of step in front of the TV with my 5kg weighted waistcoat on. This burnt enough calories to eat a small portion of Chinese with a few left over for some prawn crackers later this evening.

I know it’s a bit naughty but it was lovely, even if I couldn’t eat it all. I think my stomach has shrunk. I guess sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Now I feel a bit over full though and I hope it doesn’t mean another week with no loss.

If anyone is wondering about the weighted waistcoat it was something Commando told me about after his friend from the Martial Arts club got a very expensive one. Basically it’s a waistcoat with little pockets filled with weights. They come in various different weights and most are very expensive but I had a bit of a search on eBay and found a cheaper version. Ok so it doesn’t look too pretty but it does the job and is actually more comfortable than the rucksack because it distributes the weight better. I’d wear it for walking but it looks a bit like some kind of terrorist bomb waistcoat, plus I don’t think my coat would fit over it. It weighs 5kg which is, I believe about 11 lb.

Sunday October 24

Lovely blue sky and sun here this morning so I went off to town to get some things for Mini Commando for his new job. He needed special trousers and shoes and some White t-shirts. Comma do went off to look for the t-shirts and I had a quick look in La Senza for some more PJ’s. The ones I got on eNay are so snugly I wanted some more for winter.

There I was looking around and the assistant came up and asked if I needed any help. Normally I hate this when I’m just looking so I said “no thanks, just looking at the Pyjamas.”
She pointed out that they had a two for one offer at the other end of the shop and took me over to show me.

Of course they were all sized in small, medium and large and I wasn’t sure which would fit. I asked what she thought and explained that I had lost weight so didn’t really know which size to choose any more. This of course led to her asking how I had lost the weight (she was quite a big girl) and I ended up telling her about the website and my rucksack etc.

Looking impressed she asked if I had been measured for new bras since I’d lost the weight. I said I had a few months ago but knew I would need to be measured again soon although I was waiting until I reached goal. Last time I was measured I went to M&S and I wasn’t that impressed with the service, plus I had to book a week in advance for an appointment. The assistant said she could measure me right there and then if I liked even if I didn’t want to buy anything today. I had a little time before I had ro meet up with Commando so I thought why not.

I was very impressed with the experience. She measured me, told me I was actually 34 and not the 36 I was wearing. To be honest I kind of guessed that as, if I put my arms over my head, I end up with bits of me hanging out below my bra – what a lovely thought. She also thought I was an E cup and not DD as I have been for some years now. She bought in a bra for me to try, adjusted the straps and, hey presto, a perfect fit. So much better than the bra I was wearing, even when it was brand new and actually fit. As for the PJ’s, she told me to get small. They fit! Unbelievable.

Perhaps she is just a good saleswoman but I ended up with two pairs of PJ’s and two new bras.

So, if you are looking to get measured La Sensa has a very good service.

Also Commando is pleased to know that, although my back has got smaller, my boobs have actually gone up a cup size. RESULT
