17 October 2010 – the Southampton 10k

Looking cold because I was

Looking cold because I was

When I ate my morning muesli I was feeling a little nervous. Mostly this was about coming last in the 10k race and looking a prat. At least it wasn’t raining. Walking the last half mile from Rae’s car to The Common we relished it was freezing though and, just in our running gear we shivered our way through the wait for the start. Even with a fleece on I looked as if I was shivering in the photo Rae took while we waited, mostly because I was. Continue reading

16 October 2010 – missing the sweet spot

Half way through sorting through my T shirt and jumper drawers and getting my winter wardrobe ready I found a pair of lovely Toast trousers that had always been to small. I hid them and promised myself I would get into them one day not really believing I would. Anyway I thought they might fit now so I tried them on. Continue reading

15 October 2010 – another half marathon Friday

Turning round at Southampton Airport

Turning round at Southampton Airport

After burning all those extra calories yesterday it was off for my Riverside walk this morning. I set off early with a plan to do three and a half miles along the riverside walk to Mansbridge and then head towards Winchester on the road rather than the scary trail I tried last time. Then I’d turn round and come back having added a mile to last weeks total. After that I was going to walk into town to pick up my Garmin GPS watch if I had enough energy left and didn’t chicken out and get the bus. Continue reading

14 October 2010 – size TEN and in my wardrobe

Rather than do my normal morning workout this morning I sat glued to the TV watching the news about the Chilean miners. Imagine being trapped more than two thousand feet underground for two months! Watching the celebrations on the morning news. Fought a lump to my throat. It was hard to believe they survived, almost miraculous. They were actually rescued last night but Rachel, my hairdresser was cutting my hair so I missed the news and it was gone ten thirty before I sat down properly, then it was time to go to bed. Continue reading

13 October 2010 – worried about slipping back

A kettlebell mistake

A kettlebell mistake

Yesterday I was still on cloud nine after the Monday weigh in but this morning it occurred to me reaching is goal is not enough, I have to keep working on it. It’s only one pound after all and it wouldn’t take much to be back into the overweight. There needs to be some space between what I weight and the top of that normal BMI weight. Right now I’m too close for comfort. Continue reading

11 October 2010 – normal BMI!!!

image

yesterday was a glorious Indian summer kind of day. I even sat on the lounger in the garden for half an hour. This morning it was back to autumn and getting up in the dark with no idea what the weather was doing outside. of course it was weigh in day and I was slightly nervous, not because I’d had a bad week, I hadn’t, but because I just needed to lose one single pound to reach my next target and also, finally, a normal BMI. That one pound was the difference between being fat and being normal and I wanted it badly. Continue reading

10 October 2010 – blondes have more fun?

Because I don’t think the battery on my phone is going to hold out for the time it takes me to walk a marathon I have decided to buy a GPS watch. I’ve done some research and the battery life is more than adequate although the cost is eye watering. Anyway, I bit the bullet and ordered one online. Next weekend I will pick it up. Continue reading

9 October 2010 – hungry and tired

Dashing for the North Pole

Dashing for the North Pole

After my disastrous Riverside walk yesterday morning I thought I was doing pretty well on the exercise front and planned a quiet evening maybe reading my book.

Commando usually goes to work at four on a Friday and come home at about one in the morning. After my dinner I usually have a quiet evening possibly including a little snooze so I am still awake when he comes in. At four I was looking forward to this as I was quite tired and still a bit lurgy filled. Then Commando announced he wasn’t going to work. He’d booked the night off. He suggested we walk into town, meet up with Bard, our middle boy, and have something to eat. Bard is a musician so money is sporadic and we often worry he’s not eating properly. Continue reading

8 October 2010 – the Winchester path

Under the motorway bridge

Under the motorway bridge

Despite everything I said I spent far too long checking out the new site on Wednesday night and ended up going to bed late. This made me feel all lethargic on Thursday. I’m not the only one feeling bewildered by it all. Mel C was moaning about wasting too much time looking at all the posts on the other boards. It could seriously cut into your exercise time. To counter this Mel C has started a challenge off to keep us motivated until Christmas. It’s called the North Pole dash and you earn points for ever fifteen minutes of exercise you do. Apparently there prize is a virtual box of fuzzy felts. She’s as mad as a box of frogs that one. Continue reading
