Today was a very good day for me. I had to get up at five and be on the road at six thirty for my Dalai Lama visit in Aldershot. It was a nice chatty trip with my son and daughter in law and her friend. The event was in the football ground and started off with some Nepalese traditional dancing. Very colourful and lovely costumes. We were sitting right in front of the dancers podium so got great views. It was strange to see so many Nepalese people in one place too, if nothing else it made me feel very tall and I’m only five foot four!
His holiness arrived a little late after flying into Farnborough but it was worth the wait. He’s such a happy charismatic man. He really does laugh all the time too. He gave a talk on Buddhist ideals, non violence, compassion, taking positive actions to help others, mindfulness. All very uplifting. He also told us how he couldn’t help himself but take a cookie that was meant for lunch on his way in. This proves I’m not the only one who can’t resist a nice cookie. He walked right round the stadium before he left so was very close to us and blessed us all on his way. It was nice to see him spend particular care and time with the people in wheelchairs near the exit too.
All in all it was a very uplifting experience and, for me, a once in a lifetime experience that meant an awful lot.
