30 June 2009 – sunshine, drinks with a friend and driving on a road

Diet coke, better than cakes

Diet coke, better than cakes

This week is turning out to be a real scorcher. Perhaps it’s because we were moaning about not getting enough sun, or to taunt us for booking a holiday. Knowing our luck it will be miserable in Barcelona and we’ll have an Indian summer in the UK. To be honest I don’t care. Seeing the Gaudi buildings for real will be enough for me even without the sun. Not sure Commando will feel the same way though. He’s not that into architecture but he sure loves the sun. 29 June 2009 – away from temptation means a good weight loss

Goodbye yoyo?

Goodbye yoyo?

Working in Gosport has really helped me on the food front this week, especially without Mac tempting me with cakes and sweets all morning. There’s no shop next door so whatever I take for my lunch is all I have to eat, like it or not. As long as I’m strong willed first thing in the morning all I have to worry about is dinner and keeping a lid on the evening nibbling. After a day in that office, with all the office politics and back stabbing, I’m exhausted anyway, way too tired to be thinking about eating. I almost fell asleep in my dinner on Friday, although that could have had something to do with the constant repeats of old Michael Jackson videos. I was more of a David Cassidy kind of girl in my day and, although I don’t deny he had talent there are only so many clips of Ben, Rocking Robin and Thriller a girl can stand. Continue reading

28 June 2009 – three miles at last and a reckless holiday booking

I can do it!

I can do it!

On Monday I promised myself I would do my Race For Life training every week and, true to my word, I went out this morning, although it was pretty hot. As a precaution, I took a big bottle of water so I didn’t get dehydrated. When I got to the park, the place was overflowing with people brought out by the nice weather. All along the river bank there were parents with children, throwing bread to the swans and ducks and the grass was filled with games of football and dogs chasing balls. There were quite a few runners and they all seemed to be sporting expensive gear and state of the art iPods, GPS watches and the like. Seems like runners take themselves very seriously. There was me with my tatty old jogging trousers (my posh leggings are in the wash) and t-shirt with nothing more than an old iPod and my Walkmeter on my iPhone, quite the poor relation, plodding along so slowly. 27 June 2009 – smoothie party

Mmm smoothies

Mmm smoothies

Today was lovely and sunny so I got the smoothie maker out. I bought it a couple of years ago and every summer it comes out of the cupboard and sits on the worktop until the weather gets cold again. I love smoothies and they’re pretty healthy. I know they can be high in calories if you use ice cream but I use fat free fromage frais, skimmed milk or just fruit and ice. Today I made strawberry and raspberry ones with a big bag of frozen berries from Sainsburys and some ice. They were amazing. Continue reading

26 June 2009 – shock news about Michael Jackson

Swine flu panic

Swine flu panic

Mac phoned me at the Gosport office in a panic this morning. He heard on the news that a pupil at a local school has swine flu which brings the total number of cases in Hampshire to twenty five. I’m not sure exactly what I could have done form fifteen miles down the road. I expect he has the disinfectant spray and the hand gel out again. He also wanted to make sure I knew Michael Jackson had died. As if anyone could have missed that, the news was full of it today. I guess he and Mac have quite a lot in common, what with the hypochondria, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mac walking round in a surgical mask, especially at the moment. Continue reading

23 June 2009 – working away is good for the diet

Jolie called me this morning and asked me if I would work at the main office in Gosport for the rest of the week. Their secretary has gone sick and they have loads of work on. Our office is very quiet this week so it makes sense but it means working full days. Oh well it’s more money I guess and what could I say but yes anyway? I really hate that office. They’re so bitchy, always back stabbing each other. There really was loads to do though so the time went pretty quickly and I had a couple of calls from Mac because he couldn’t find files. I spent most of the day worrying about how he was getting on on his own. Continue reading

22 June 2009 – a big gain and giving up on the fad diets

Only a pound, I expected more

Only a pound, I expected more

I weighed myself this morning and I’m back to twelve stone six. I’ve regained nearly all the weight I lost on the Atkins diet. My eating has got out of control again and I haven’t done any Race For Life training all month. I’ve let all this driving business take over my life and I have to get back in control again NOW. I’ve decided there are going to be no more crash diets, no Atkins or cabbage soup, I’m going to be sensible and eat properly and I’m going to make sure I do Race For Life training every week. Continue reading
