28 February 2012 – Cake not avoided

Oh dear! We had a charity cake sale today at work for the make a wish foundation. I really tried to avoid eating any but bought one for my friend so I could contribute. I also purposely bought cake to sell that I don’t like so I wouldn’t be tempted by my own. Unfortunately my friend returned the favour and bought me a cake. I left it on my desk and covered it with a tissue so I wasn’t tempted but in the end I gave in. It was a lovely chocolate cupcake and I ate it. Continue reading

14 November 2010 – compliments at World’s End

Yet another wet and miserable day. Last night we went to a 21st birthday party. It was one of the girls from Commando’s marshal arts class and it was in the middle of nowhere in a pub at a place, quite aptly called, World’s End. It was nice to catch up with a few people I haven’t seen for ages and to get lots of compliments about lost weight. Continue reading

12 September 2010 – overdoing it on two fronts

Paying for a night out

Paying for a night out

Yesterday, the worrying about eating out calories had me walking for two hours with my sandbags to earn calories just in case. It was a good job I did because I ended up eating them all plus another four hundred. This was mostly down to birthday cake and champagne, plus I didn’t want to be a party pooper. Continue reading

19 July 2010 – cakes and willpower

Back to the Mad House this morning but I got a lift in from Commando which cut my exercise calories considerably. Unfortunately, the huge box of cakes for the cake sale left me no choice. There was no way I could have done the two mile walk without ruining them so I would have had to catch the bus anyway, if it hadn’t been for Commando. Continue reading

18 July 2010 – cake bowl blues

• Exercise: 456

Well not much of a last chance work out today although I did do nearly an hour on the Wii which is good and I completed the Wii challenge. I have hardly sat down all day though so there might not be much to log in my exercise diary but I guess I must have been burning off the calories. This morning/afternoon I prepared all the meals for the week and really put some thought into what I could have that wouldn’t involve starchy carbs. This is especially important after falling off the wagon with the Chinese yesterday. Continue reading

16 July 2010 – charity gardening hangover

• Exercise: 321
• Consumed: 1485

Well I’ve woken up a little stiff in the shoulders after a day cutting back hedges at Naomi House for our charity day. It was hard work but we had fun and the rain more or less held off. Rae, Panda, Primo and I did most of the work while the boys messed about trying to show off how strong they were carting things around. We clipped miles of hedges and weeded between acres of crazy brick paths. Kim supervised because she’s the manager and far too weak and feeble to mange either hedge trimming or weeding. Mitty pretended to work while actually getting in the way and making the job harder. Continue reading

5 July 2010 – resisting the lure of the cake sale

Day one didn’t go too badly. I did my normal weekday morning Wii Fit exercise which added to a surprising number of calories according to the calorie diary and ate a normal day’s diet minus any extra naughty treats. I added everything I ate into the calorie diary and was within my allowance. So far so good then. Continue reading

2 May 2010 – Turning fifty, maybe not as bad as I thought

Champagne on the beach

Champagne on the beach

Last night I went to bed in my forties and this morning I woke up in my fifties. Half a century. How did I get so old? Whatever happens now I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning, unless I live to be a hundred and one of course but I somehow doubt that will happen. Does this mean I’m officially over the hill? I feel the same today as I did yesterday, the same as I did at twenty, at least until I look in the mirror and see the wrinkles and the saggy bits. Continue reading
