2 July 2011 – veg and smoothies

IMG_6582

This morning I was stuck outside while Commando jet washed the decking so I made the most of it by gardening. On the veg patch little baby tomatoes were forming, radishes coming up and the first cabbages and cauliflower were ready to cut. I also cut some corriander seeds to dry and picked a load more peas. The slugs have managed to use overhanging leaves to jump over the copper tape and get in amongst the veg so there was a chopping back and slug picking session. I know I could use slug pellets but I don’t like killing things, even slugs. It may sound silly but my Buddhist persuasion will not let me do it. I picked them all off and put them elsewhere in the garden where they can’t do so much damage. I have a sneaking suspicion they will find their way back. I swear I have homing slugs. 10 June 2011 – a runner in the family

This week has been my first week properly back on the wagon since my holiday. Yesterday morning I weighed in and I’ve lost 3 lbs. Now I will be trying to stay on the wagon for the next few weeks by which time I will hopefully be under the lower end of my target weight range and can go back to maintaining. Continue reading

Grow your own – 4 June 2011

image56

Right now I’m concentrating on healthy eating and that involves eating as fresh and organic as I can. What better than to grow my own veg then? With this in mind I’ve spent the afternoon out in the garden weeding and cutting back. My little veg garden is doing really well. I have pods on the pea plants that look like they will be ready to pick in the next week or so. The tomato plants have their first lot of flowers just coming out and the first spring onions are beginning to swell. Continue reading

22 April 2011 – shopping, not walking

20130105-220222

What a busy old day. The girls came round last night and we didn’t get to bed until about 3 am. There were a few drinks and a few bad food choices last night too but I’m sure its nothing in the great scheme of things and I’m not beating myself up about it. We had a fantastic evening and I’m sure all the laughing, plus a little work out on the punch bag, burnt off quite a few calories. Continue reading

11 April 2011 – Easter Egg temptation

20120917-174338

Well that weekend certainly whizzed past! We have completed the veg patch and Commando even took some photos. It’s a very small space but I’m still hoping to get some nice veg from it and the tubs on the patio. I still have chillies to plant out but they aren’t quite ready yet and a big pot of strawberries which are just beginning to come up. Can’t wait to start eating it all. Continue reading

19 March 2011 – donations, gardening and walking

image22

Thus morning I was feeling a little tired after the late night working for Comic Relief. Not that I’m complaining because we had a good night. When we arrived we were sent to the canteen for a chilli which the boys appreciated. They also had some cake. Then we went off to man the phones. Obviously, for me this was easier then it was for them but they did very well. The phones were quiet at first but once the sad stores started on TV the calls started coming in. The biggest donation of the evening in our call centre was £1000 and I took it! All in all I took £2106 in donations. I’m not sure what the total for the call centre will be but everyone did a sterling job. Continue reading

16 March 2011 – patience and seedlings

looking forward to home grown lettuce in my wraps

It was dull and overcast here today and I was feeling a little achy after a hard workout last night. Despite this I did do a Wii fit work out though. Once I’d had my shower I dashed out to the propagator to check on my seedlings. Patience is not my strong point and, even though I knew it was far too early for anything to be happening, I have been checking every morning and every evening. Continue reading
