13 March 2011 – growing my own

Sunshine on the Big Bridge

Sunshine on the Big Bridge

This morning’s walk took me into town to pick up a new toothbrush. My trusty sonicare has given up the ghost and won’t hold a charge so I ordered a new one from Argos and had to go and get it today. It was nice and sunny so it was a pleasant walk. Continue reading

12 March 2011 – clearing up the garden and football

Tidying up the front garden

Tidying up the front garden

It was sunny and bright here today so I decided to get out in the garden for a while and have a little tidy up. The teenagers from next door were fighting in the road in the early hours so I was feeling a little tired. They are not the best of neighbours, the parents always used to have all their rows in the garden or in the street, it seems the kids are following in their footsteps. About a year ago the parents split up and the teens have been living alone in the house since the mother remarried and moved out (great parenting there obviously). Their ages range from around 21 down to about 16 and they are more or less out of control. Continue reading

25 July 2010 – worn out

Sunday July 25th
• Exercise: 372
• Consumed: 1158

This morning I finished off the bark chips on the front garden and did a bit more work on the corner where the flax used to be to try to encourage the crowded out plants to grow in the right direction. My poor back and shoulders are now protesting so I guess I must have burned a few more calories. Despite it being last chance workout weekend I really do need to rest now so I’m going to sit in the garden for a while and enjoy it all. Later I have to do the weeks cooking but for now I’m resting. Right, i might just shut my eyes for a minute… Continue reading

24 July 2010 – gardening calories

Burning calories in the garden

Burning calories in the garden

Saturday 24th July
• Exercise: 1067
• Consumed: 1033

The weather has been nice here today so I spent most of my time in the garden again. For once there wasn’t really anything in need of clipping but I’ve weeded the front garden, rebedded the big pebbles that divide the grass from the flower beds and put on a fresh layer of bark chips. Bark chip spreading is seriously hard work and I was disappointed to see there wasn’t an entry in the exercise diary for it and I had to add it as general gardening which seemed to be way less calories than I felt I burned. After that I watered everything and stood back to admire my hard work. It is all looking really nice and the best part is I’ve burnt over 1,050 calories doing it! Continue reading

6 March 2010 – being busy is a useful weight loss tool

The garden is now tidy. It took most of the day but everything is all cut back, swept up and looking good. It isn’t actually exercise I know but I’m pretty sure it must have burned loads of calories. By the end of the day I could hardly move my arms from all the clipping and sweeping. Still that means they go rather well with the stiff legs from yesterday’s five mile walk. Continue reading
