struggling – 8 June 2011

Since I got back from holiday I’ve been struggling to get back on track with food and exercise. You are meant to feel rested after a holiday but I feel worn out. It probably doesn’t help that we have new systems to learn at work. We started using them yesterday afternoon along with the old ones, so now we are running three systems all together which is tough. I thought my head was going to explode at one point. We also had two power cuts in the afternoon which caused mayhem as all three systems went down. The last was a quarter of an hour before we went home and there were people stuck in the lifts when we walked down the stairs from floor eight to get out. Glad that wasn’t me! Continue reading

14 May 2011 – Moonwalk day has arrived

1 moonwalk

So the Moonwalk day has finally arrived. We made it to London and checked into the Travel Inn at Putney. This was when I realised I’d forgotten my socks for heavens sake! Luckily, as we were driving to the hotel I’d  seen an M&S and a sports shop close by so we went for a stroll and I now have socks. They’re padded underneath which may prove to be a godsend. We had a quick coffee and seed bar in Pret and I’m now going to try to have a snooze while Commando watches the FA cup final. Can’t wait to meet everyone later… Continue reading

29 April 2011 – Marathon walk

The church in Twyford

The church in Twyford

This morning I set off not really feeling like walking but determined to do at least 22 miles. When I got to Riverside Park I was amazed to see 31 swans (yes I did count them) swimming down the river together towards the bridge. I’m not sure what that was all about or where they all came from but it was quite a stunning sight. The rest of the river was empty of swans so I wonder of they were having some kind of swan party. 22 April 2011 – shopping, not walking

20130105-220222

What a busy old day. The girls came round last night and we didn’t get to bed until about 3 am. There were a few drinks and a few bad food choices last night too but I’m sure its nothing in the great scheme of things and I’m not beating myself up about it. We had a fantastic evening and I’m sure all the laughing, plus a little work out on the punch bag, burnt off quite a few calories. Continue reading

15 April 2011 – disaster ridden twenty one miles

Woodmill

Woodmill

I set off quite early this morning planning to walk twenty miles but things didn’t turn out quite how I expected. On the way to the river I dropped into Tesco Express to pcik up a bottle of water (yet again I’d left my water bottle in the kitchen Doh!). Tucking it into my bum bag I walked down to the river. About half way along the first straight I thought I’d open the water. Got it out of the bum bag, fumbled and dropped it, only to watch it roll down the steep slope and into the river! Felt a bit bad about littering but there was nothing I could do short of having a quick swim with the swans. Continue reading

8 April 2011 – putting in the miles

IMG_7621

This morning I got up nice and early today to start my walk. For this first time this year it was warm enough to leave the parka at home, so I just wore my jeans, Moonwalk t-shirt and a fleece. There were a few swans on the river but the little ducklings I saw last week were no where to be seen. I zipped along the river to Woodmill and then on to the White Swan where I saw one of my swans but no cygnets. It was very pretty along there today with the morning sun glistening off the water and very quiet too at that time of the morning. Continue reading

19 March 2011 – donations, gardening and walking

image22

Thus morning I was feeling a little tired after the late night working for Comic Relief. Not that I’m complaining because we had a good night. When we arrived we were sent to the canteen for a chilli which the boys appreciated. They also had some cake. Then we went off to man the phones. Obviously, for me this was easier then it was for them but they did very well. The phones were quiet at first but once the sad stores started on TV the calls started coming in. The biggest donation of the evening in our call centre was £1000 and I took it! All in all I took £2106 in donations. I’m not sure what the total for the call centre will be but everyone did a sterling job. Continue reading

12 March 2011 – clearing up the garden and football

Tidying up the front garden

Tidying up the front garden

It was sunny and bright here today so I decided to get out in the garden for a while and have a little tidy up. The teenagers from next door were fighting in the road in the early hours so I was feeling a little tired. They are not the best of neighbours, the parents always used to have all their rows in the garden or in the street, it seems the kids are following in their footsteps. About a year ago the parents split up and the teens have been living alone in the house since the mother remarried and moved out (great parenting there obviously). Their ages range from around 21 down to about 16 and they are more or less out of control. Continue reading

18 February 2011 – TGI Fridays and Comic Relief

cocktails

On Thursday night my team were going to TGI Fridays for a team meal. After a week with no real exercise I didn’t think I needed the extra calories and I was feeling quite worn out. In the end though I bowed to peer pressure and did end up going. The team insisted it wouldn’t be the same without me. How sweet. Still, I didn’t do too badly on the food because I had steak and only one rum and diet coke. Continue reading

4 February 2011 – sixteen miles!

a damp and miserable park

a damp and miserable park

This morning I was feeling quite tired after a mad week at work. We had a special promotion this week so not only did we have a lot of calls but we had a lot of new things to remember and to fit into each call without messing up our stats. We also have a whole new list of things we are being targeted on so the brain is feeling a little frazzled. It’s quite hard to get used to all these changes while sounding like you know what you’re doing at all times and remembering to check all the things that have to be checked on each account plus giving good service. I guess it will get easier next week.
