Last night I didn’t do too badly at TGI Fridays all things considered. Armed with the information I got from Google, I stuck to the low cal choices from the menu. Ok, so they could hardly be counted as good but at least I tried. For my starter I had buffalo wings which I shared with Mitty. Thanks to Mitty’s rather vague understanding of sharing I only ate 3 which was under 200 calories. I did have the lions share of the the celery sticks as Mitty hates celery but I think that could actually be counted as a good thing. Continue reading

This morning I finished off the bark chips on the front garden and did a bit more work on the corner where the flax used to be to try to encourage the crowded out plants to grow in the right direction. My poor back and shoulders are now protesting so I guess I must have burned a few more calories. Despite it being last chance workout weekend I really do need to rest now so I’m going to sit in the garden for a while and enjoy it all. Later I have to do the weeks cooking but for now I’m resting. 16 July 2010 – charity gardening hangover

Well I’ve woken up a little stiff in the shoulders after a day cutting back hedges at Naomi House for our charity day. It was hard work but we had fun and the rain more or less held off. Rae, Panda, Primo and I did most of the work while the boys messed about trying to show off how strong they were carting things around. We clipped miles of hedges and weeded between acres of crazy brick paths. Kim supervised because she’s the manager and far too weak and feeble to mange either hedge trimming or weeding. Mitty pretended to work while actually getting in the way and making the job harder. Continue reading

This week felt like a month at the very least. Going back to work after a week off is always difficult, working at Mad House makes it doubly so. Then there was the change of floor. A different view from a different window and realising I’m incapable of remembering which floor to get out of the lift on from one day to the next. Three days out of four I’ve got out at floor six, walked onto the old floor and then realised I was in the wrong place. Oh well, I guess I’m burning extra calories walking up the stairs.

So tired…can hardly think straight. It has been a rubbish day. Zero sales, lots of moaners and, just before eight o’clock, a mega moaner who ended up as a manager escalation. Kim wasn’t happy because it meant she had to stay late to deal with it. It was almost half past eight by the time I walked through the turnstile and out into the dusk. Of course Rae had already gone and so had the ten past eight bus. The next one wasn’t due until ten past nine so I walked. Continue reading

At least I was moving faster than the people in the cars

For all my big talk about learning lessons from the weight gain I’m finding it hard to get back to sensible eating after my week away. It’s as if a taste of forbidden fruit (or in this case chocolate) has wiped out all I’ve learned. Back in the canteen I can’t resist the lattes, worse still I can’t seem to walk past the chocolate bars either. I’ve had one every single day even though each morning I tell myself I won’t. At this rate there’s going to be a gain rather than a loss when I next weigh in. Continue reading

It was a bus to work this morning, feeling half dead and cursing Ali Rana for not giving me the day off. Amy’s empty seat just rubbed salt into the wounds. If there’s any justice her size eight leggings will strangle her. To cap it all our systems were down most of the day. You’d think they’d have let us go home but they didn’t. We spent all day answering calls, telling people the systems were down and either directing them to the website or filling in a call back form. We all did our best to discourage the latter because we know for sure those call backs are not going to happen. Continue reading
