19 May – still walking but not worrying

IMG_0819

This morning I took a stroll down along the river to visit my friend Sammie. It was a lovely sunny day and it was really uplifting to walk along with some happy music on my iPod. Even better to know I didn’t have any distances or times to worry about and I could just stroll along as far and as fast as I wanted. There were hardly any people around and the swans were ambling about aimlessly and basking in the sun. Continue reading

14 May 2011 – Moonwalk day has arrived

1 moonwalk

So the Moonwalk day has finally arrived. We made it to London and checked into the Travel Inn at Putney. This was when I realised I’d forgotten my socks for heavens sake! Luckily, as we were driving to the hotel I’d  seen an M&S and a sports shop close by so we went for a stroll and I now have socks. They’re padded underneath which may prove to be a godsend. We had a quick coffee and seed bar in Pret and I’m now going to try to have a snooze while Commando watches the FA cup final. Can’t wait to meet everyone later… Continue reading

29 April 2011 – Marathon walk

The church in Twyford

The church in Twyford

This morning I set off not really feeling like walking but determined to do at least 22 miles. When I got to Riverside Park I was amazed to see 31 swans (yes I did count them) swimming down the river together towards the bridge. I’m not sure what that was all about or where they all came from but it was quite a stunning sight. The rest of the river was empty of swans so I wonder of they were having some kind of swan party. 15 April 2011 – disaster ridden twenty one miles

Woodmill

Woodmill

I set off quite early this morning planning to walk twenty miles but things didn’t turn out quite how I expected. On the way to the river I dropped into Tesco Express to pcik up a bottle of water (yet again I’d left my water bottle in the kitchen Doh!). Tucking it into my bum bag I walked down to the river. About half way along the first straight I thought I’d open the water. Got it out of the bum bag, fumbled and dropped it, only to watch it roll down the steep slope and into the river! Felt a bit bad about littering but there was nothing I could do short of having a quick swim with the swans. Continue reading

8 April 2011 – putting in the miles

IMG_7621

This morning I got up nice and early today to start my walk. For this first time this year it was warm enough to leave the parka at home, so I just wore my jeans, Moonwalk t-shirt and a fleece. There were a few swans on the river but the little ducklings I saw last week were no where to be seen. I zipped along the river to Woodmill and then on to the White Swan where I saw one of my swans but no cygnets. It was very pretty along there today with the morning sun glistening off the water and very quiet too at that time of the morning. Continue reading

19 March 2011 – donations, gardening and walking

image22

Thus morning I was feeling a little tired after the late night working for Comic Relief. Not that I’m complaining because we had a good night. When we arrived we were sent to the canteen for a chilli which the boys appreciated. They also had some cake. Then we went off to man the phones. Obviously, for me this was easier then it was for them but they did very well. The phones were quiet at first but once the sad stores started on TV the calls started coming in. The biggest donation of the evening in our call centre was £1000 and I took it! All in all I took £2106 in donations. I’m not sure what the total for the call centre will be but everyone did a sterling job. Continue reading

18 March 2011 – rain stops play

The dull and drizzly weather and a stint on the Comic Relief phones tonight put me off doing a long walk today. As it was my first time volunteering for Comic Relief I didn’t want to wear myself out. Everyone says it will be fun but it will be manic and I’m taking Commando Junior and Bard along to help out. We will all be answering the phones to take donations. Continue reading
