Yesterday was the perfect day and including all the walking I think I was still within calories. I slept like a baby and this morning breakfast was great as it was continental style so no bacon and eggs to tempt me just a croissant and yoghurt with some lovely fresh orange juice. Over breakfast we decided we’d climb Vesuvius today and tomorrow we’d visit Pompeii. It felt as if we had to see the mountain so we could really appreciate the ruins of the town even though I was itching to walk those ancient streets. Continue reading

30 August 2010 – Walking around Naples
Yesterday there was no exercise at all and I ate loads. even so I ended up within my maintenance calories which was not bad when this also included half a bottle of pink champagne! Breakfast today was a croissant and coffee plus fresh orange juice. I couldn’t even begin to calculate the calories in that little lot. Then there was a skinny latte in Pret A Manger at Gatwick South Terminal. Continue reading
29 August 2010 – champagne surprise
The overcast morning didn’t really bother me for once. There wasn’t going to be any walking as I’d be spending most of the day sitting in the car. The weigh in was the thing I wasn’t looking forward to. I had to really psyche myself up to get on the scales because there hadn’t been as much exercise as I’d have liked and there was one whole day less to lose weight in. when I finally did weigh myself I was over the moon with a two and a half pound loss! This more than makes up for last week’s rubbish result and proved that Annep was right about eating all my calorie allowance. She said I might not have lost because I was under calories almost every day. It doesn’t really make sense but I bow to her greater knowledge. This week I kept up the exercise, more or less, and made sure I ate all my calories. It worked!

28 August 2010 – last chance cooking
The sun has got his hat on here for the first time in days. There is still packing and planning to do today, despite all my work yesterday. Mostly this involves cooking meals for Mini Commando while we are away. Well, I can hardly leave him to fend for himself even if he is twenty years old. Besides, if I cook and all he has to do is microwave things there is a small chance the house, particularly the kitchen, will not be a total mess when I get home. Continue reading
27 August 2014 – rain stops walk
Yay! The holiday started here! So much to do so little time between now and Sunday when we leave for Gatwick. The plan was to do the riverside walk this morning and get down to all the pre holiday stuff afterwards. As it turned out, it was raining, thick grey clouds, rain and walking do not go together, especially for someone who can’t see without glasses. I abandoned the walk and got packing instead. Continue reading
26 August 2010 – then I went and spoiled it all
• Exercise: 504
• Consumed: 1153
As today was my last day at work before a whole week off I’m delighted its over. No work now until the Monday after next. WOO HOO! There were not many people in today because lots of people are working their rest day next week so they can have an extra long bank holiday weekend. Because of the low numbers and Kim being off we were really busy so my team and Cherry’s team joined forces. Because we hit our targets, Cherry, bought Pizzas for everyone for lunch. I am really proud to say that I had my sandwich and resisted the pizzas altogether. Continue reading
25 August 2010 – soaked and tired but still working out
Tuesday 24th • Exercise: 962 • Consumed: 963
Today
• Exercise: 1158
• Consumed: 1190
Today was wet but I managed to get to work without getting too drenched, although it was spitting with rain most of the way. Other than that it was quite a normal day. I walked up and down the stairs a few times with my rucksack. At eight o’clock when I left the office it was really raining so I decided to take the bus, especially as it was already dark because of the rain. As I got to the bus stop there was a bus there waiting so I ran. He waited until I got right to the door then drove off. Why do they do that? Im sure they get some perverse joy out of it. Anyway, as the next bus wasn’t for half an hour and it takes me about thirty five to forty minutes to walk home, I decided to walk despite the rain. After all I was going to get wet waiting so I might as well walk and burn some calories. Continue reading
22 August 2014 – relaxation
• Exercise: 702
• Consumed: 1065
Today I did precisely nothing. The summer is coming to an end so I spent the whole day on the lounger reading my kindle and drinking endless cups of coffee supplied by my slave, Mini Commando. Sometimes you just have to have a rest day and I think I’ve earned one. Continue reading
21 August 2010 – football temptations
• Exercise: 652
• Consumed: 1338
Well I didn’t get to do much exercise today except the walk to and from the football, although I did carry my sandbags in my rucksack. Commando was worried about how I would explain them if they asked what they were when my bag was searched on the way in. I knew it wouldn’t be a problem though. When it comes to womens handbags they just have a little look inside. Can you imagine the time it would take to go through all the handbags of all the women who go to football? There would be no time for the match. We all carry so much junk around with us all the time and some of the stuff lurking at the bottom of mine would really not bear close inspection. Continue reading
20 August 2010 – walk jogging with Rae
• Exercise: 1169
• Consumed: 1493
At the crack of dawn, well eight O’clock, Rae and I set off for Riverside. She lives in Gosport which is flat as a pancake so, almost at once, she slowed to a walking pace which was good for me because I was wearing my walking shoes and, anyway, I was less than keen on the whole jog/walk thing. This is one of the flattest walks around here but there was a great deal of grumbling and huffing when we left the Main Road and headed up towards the park. The funny thing is I’d never even realised it was up hill until then. Compared to the Big Hill and the Little Hill the road is just a gentle slope. Rae thought otherwise and made sure I knew it.
